Make More Space With
A Dormer Loft Conversion

Got the roof height, but not the floor space, then a dormer loft conversion is your answer.

Dormer Loft Conversions

What is a loft dormer conversion?

A dormer loft conversion is a structural roof extension extends out from the pitch of the existing sloping roof. A dormer is often the cost efficient way to create a more floor space in what could have been a small attic space. The windows in a dormer are usually larger as well, giving more light into the loft

TVM’s loft dormers are built to the same high standard as the rest of our building work, meeting all relevant Planning and Building Regulations for construction quality and thermal efficiency. We can carry out brick matched where possible to blend the new extension with your existing structure.

Do I need planning permission for a loft dormer?

For most if the dormer is the rear, then you do not need planning permission. If however, you have a front or side dormer, then this would need planning permission in most cases. There are exceptions to both rules, but this is a good starting place. Not sure what you need, then call us for a free design consultation today.

What dormer loft conversions are available?

There is quite a range of styles available, such as shed, hipped, eyebrow and many more, but the all fall into two core categories. These are in effect full or partial dormers. A full dormer will be a single dormer which cover most of the length of the roof, and a partial dormer is covers only part of the roof. The small or partial dormers are also often done a double, and triples depending the room layout beneath them. Click on any of the picture to see them larger.

Why should I consider a dormer loft conversion?

The biggest reason for dormer is that it can give you quite considerably more usable floor space. When you convert with the existing roof space, you can quickly run out of head height, but where you have a dormer you have full height ceilings. The second most popular reason we hear for having a dormer is the outlook. When you have Velux windows inset into the existing roof line, these obviously angle the same of the roof. With a dormer, the windows are more traditionally mounted, i.e. vertical. Many of our customers will also have larger windows as well, not increasing the light into the room, but also the view!
